UK Monthly Used Car Market Data – 24th March 2023

Between 17th March 2023 and 24th March 2023, there were further changes observed in the UK car market. The total number of dealers decreased slightly from 9,558 to 9,538, while the total number of rooftops saw a slight increase from 15,684 to 15,701.

In terms of advertising, the total number of advert listings increased from 540,522 to 545,996 during this period. The average number of days a car remained on the market decreased from 52 days to 51 days, while the average price of listed cars remained stable at £19,391.

Analysing the breakdown of listings by price brackets, there were some notable changes. The number of listings under £10,000 increased from 147,177 to 147,729, while the £10,001-£20,000 category increased from 196,454 to 198,844. Other price brackets experienced relatively minor fluctuations.

Looking at the number of dealers based on advert volumes, most categories remained stable. The majority of dealers had less than 100 adverts, with 8,783 dealers in the first week and 8,763 dealers in the second week. There were slight increases in the number of dealers in the 501-1000 adverts and 1000+ adverts categories, while the remaining categories saw minimal changes.

Analysing the top 100 dealers by volume, their stock volumes increased from 197,876 to 201,310 during this period. The average price of their listings slightly decreased from £22,783 to £22,735. The average number of days on the market (DoM) decreased from 43 to 42. In terms of price revision, there was a decrease in the number of price increases from 11,854 to 9,449, and a decrease in the number of price decreases from 37,397 to 39,718.

For dealers outside the top 100, their stock volumes increased from 342,646 to 344,686. The average price of their listings remained stable at £17,382. The average DoM decreased from 59 days to 57 days. Regarding price revision, there was a decrease in the number of price increases from 5,237 to 4,776, and an increase in the number of price decreases from 21,595 to 22,381.

Overall, the UK car market experienced further changes during this period, with fluctuations in the number of listings by price brackets, the number of dealers based on advert volumes, and shifts in stock volumes, average prices, days on the market, and price revisions for both the top 100 dealers and those outside the top 100.
