MarketCheck, the UK’s leading source of used vehicle market data, has today revealed that BMW is ahead of Tesla as the most represented manufacturer among active used electric vehicle listings in the UK.
MarketCheck data shows 3,525 used electric BMWs currently advertised for sale, representing 8.98% of the UK used EV market.
Tesla follows closely behind with 3,443 vehicles and an 8.77% share.
The figures reveal how increasingly competitive and fragmented Britain’s used EV sector has become, with no single manufacturer accounting for even 10% of available stock.
Volkswagen ranks third, with 2,735 active used EV listings, equivalent to 6.97% of the market, followed by MG with 2,544 (6.48%) and Audi with 2,297 (5.85%).
Kia accounts for a further 5.31%, ahead of Vauxhall at 5.05%, Hyundai at 4.89% and Volvo at 4.49%.
BYD already accounts for 874 active used EV listings, or 2.23% of the market, despite being a comparatively recent entrant to the UK market.
Alastair Campbell, MarketCheck UK, commented:
“For a long time, Tesla has been the brand most closely associated with the electric car market, so it’s significant to see BMW now narrowly ahead when we look at active used EV stock.
But perhaps the bigger story is how fragmented the market has become. Neither BMW nor Tesla represents even one in ten used EVs currently advertised, and almost two-thirds of the market sits outside the five largest manufacturers.
That’s a sign of how much choice has entered the second-hand EV market. Buyers are no longer choosing from a relatively small group of established electric models.
