January 2026 sets all-time record for used hybrid sales in the UK

Marketcheck, the UK’s most significant source of data on the used vehicle market, has today revealed that January 2026 was the strongest month ever recorded for used hybrid vehicle sales, with 36,832 units sold across the UK.

This marks a new all-time high for the hybrid sector, surpassing the previous record of 32,750 set in July 2025, and representing a large increase on January 2025 when 29,405 used hybrids were sold.

The figures highlight the extraordinary growth of hybrid vehicles in the second-hand market. Monthly used hybrid sales have more than doubled since mid-2023, when typical volumes ranged between 13,000 and 17,000 cars per month.

Hybrid vehicles have shown consistent growth throughout 2024 and 2025, with monthly volumes regularly exceeding 30,000 units, reflecting their growing appeal among drivers seeking improved fuel efficiency without fully transitioning to electric.
