March sets new record for UK used EV sales as prices fall further

Marketcheck, the UK’s leading source of used car market data, has today published figures showing that March 2026 was the strongest month on record for used electric vehicle sales in the UK.

A total of 32,880 used EVs were sold during March, the highest monthly figure ever recorded by Marketcheck. This comfortably surpasses the previous record of 22,381 in February 2026.

The record sales month also came as prices continued to fall. The average last listed price of a used EV in March was £21,726, down from £22,654 in February,.

March’s surge also followed the escalation of conflict involving Iran at the end of February, which created renewed uncertainty around global oil markets and fuel prices. Rising concerns over petrol and diesel costs may have accelerated interest in electric vehicles among buyers looking for greater running-cost certainty.

Alastair Campbell, Marketcheck UK, commented:

“March was a landmark month for the used EV market. Sales reached record levels, while prices fell to some of the lowest levels we have seen.

The timing is significant. Buyers were already responding to better affordability and a wider choice of stock, but instability in global energy markets following events involving Iran appears to have added further momentum.

When fuel prices come into question, many motorists start looking seriously at electric vehicles. 

March’s figures show just how quickly the market can respond.
