Marketcheck, the most significant source of data on the UK used car market, has today published an update on regional variations in the cost to buy a used EV.
Marketcheck has used several metrics to analyse developments in the market over the course of the last year across the different British regions.
Regional Analysis:
Almost every region has seen an increase in used EVs sold between August 2024 – July 2024 and August 2024 – August 2023.
Despite these similarities in trends across the whole of the UK, Marketcheck data reveals some stark regional differences in the availability, cost and sale of used EVs.
The most expensive place to buy a used EV is in Yorkshire and Humber, with an average price of £28,421, in August 2024. This is £5,809 more expensive than the South East, where you can buy the cheapest used EVs in the UK, with an average price of £22,612.
The cost of a used EV in Yorkshire, as well Wales (£27,844), the East of England (£26,284), East Midlands (£25,337), and the North West (£25,153) are above the national average of £24,577. Perhaps surprisingly, a used EV in Greater London cost slightly below the national average at £24,470 in August this year.
Used EV Sale Price (August 2024)
Yorkshire & Humber | £28,421.00 |
Wales | £27,844.00 |
East of England | £26,284.00 |
East Midlands | £25,337.00 |
North West | £25,153.00 |
National | £24,577.00 |
Greater London | £24,470.00 |
North East | £24,452.00 |
Scotland | £23,875.00 |
South West | £23,671.00 |
West Midlands | £22,985.00 |
Northern Ireland | £22,843.00 |
South East | £22,612.00 |
Looking at the figures over the last year the North West and East Midlands have seen the largest growth in the used EV market since August 2023, with over twice as many cars available for purchase and sold across both regions.
The South East has the most used cars available both for sale (5,649) and sold (2,442) in August, with Northern Ireland the fewest in both categories with 654 used cars available for sale, and 205 sold for the same month.
Alastair Campbell, Marketcheck UK: “These statistics indicate that the used EV market is thriving. Although some regions still lag, used EVs are becoming cheaper, newer, and more widely available overall. There are signs that the rest of the country is starting to catch up with Greater London, as the use of used EVs spreads more evenly beyond the capital.”
