MarketCheck, the UK’s leading source of used vehicle market data, has today revealed a marked slowdown in used diesel sales this summer, with volumes significantly below the levels recorded during the same period in both 2024 and 2025.
A total of 382,350 used diesel vehicles were sold between April and July 2026, according to MarketCheck data.
That compares with 438,421 during the same four-month period in 2025 and 422,828 in 2024.
Alastair Campbell, MarketCheck UK, commented:
“The interesting thing about diesel this summer isn’t necessarily the movement from one month to the next, but the gap that’s opened up compared with recent years – the slowdown is noteworthy and considerable.
It will be interesting to see whether volumes recover as we move out of the summer or whether 2026 marks the beginning of a more sustained reduction in used diesel transactions.
MarketCheck will continue to analyse emerging trends, and giving the industry time to react or alter strategy.”
