The capability

A car’s life in listings

Give the API a number plate and it returns the car’s advertising history: each time it was listed, where, by whom, at what price and mileage. Records carry the seller type, dealer, auction or private, so you can see a car move through the trade.

That history answers questions a static lookup cannot: how many times has this car been sold, how has its price moved, and does its mileage progression add up?

What you can see

Signals in the history

Depreciation, observed

Real advertised prices over time for this exact car, not a curve from a book.

Mileage progression

Each listing’s recorded mileage in sequence. Readings that fall instead of rise are a clocking red flag.

Reappearance alerts

A car relisted weeks after selling tells a story: quick flips, trade churn, or a sale that fell through.

FAQ

Common questions

How far back does history go?

MarketCheck has tracked every UK listing per number plate since 2022. Each record is one advert: its price, recorded mileage, seller, source website and the dates it appeared and disappeared.

Does it include private sales and auctions?

Records carry a seller type of dealer, private or auction, so you can see a car pass from auction to forecourt to private sale, and price each hop.

How is this different from an HPI-style check?

Traditional checks report registered events: finance, write-offs, keeper changes. This API reports market behaviour: what the car was advertised at, by whom, for how long. The two are complementary; several vehicle-check services layer our history on top of theirs.

How is the history delivered?

One GET request per number plate, returning up to 50 records per page, most recent first, as structured JSON your product can render directly.
